What should I charge for child care services in Southern California?
I'm going to be babysitting a friends baby within the next few months and I'm trying to figure out what's an appropriate rate to charge her, but that's less than the norm. I'll be doing it 40 hrs a week out of my home and this would be the only baby I would be watching (besides my own). I'm thinking somewhere around $500-$700/month but I don't know if that's too much or not.

- I was a nanny in Orange County before having my son, and the going rate was $10-$12 an hour. That was 2 years ago. You could offer the same, or negotiate a median price. Paying $15 or more per hour is crazy.
- What you need to do is call around and see how much it will cost if she were to put her baby in a day care and then charge 50% - 60% of that cost. My local daycare in NC charges $1100.00 a month so I would charge some one $ 660.00 a month and thats really fair.
- Wow...I think that's pretty expensive for watching a friends baby. I only pay $2.00 an hour for my son to be watched by a family friend. I would charge $500 a month at the most.
