- There are many things for kids to do. I don't know if a 5 year old would enjoy them though. There are arcades, pools, shopping, shows, all within Caesars Palace or walking distance. Don't know about the child care.
- There is a nasty rumor going around that Vegas has become a family vacation spot. Not true, there were some changes made a number of years back to get it more family orientated. They failed miserably. The only establishment there that I would consider for children is Circus Circus. They have an amusement park in the hotel.
Teenagers that can be left on there own would have a good time in Vegas, But children that are to young to be unsupervised theres not much for them there.
Try some on line web serches for childrens activities, I know there are some water parks there but dont know the names of the places.
Vegas is a "Gambling Town"
- I am not sure about hotels offering child care services, but the hotel that has a lot of kid friendly options would be the Excalibur. There is a game arcade in the lower level. Circus Circus casino offer's free shows with circus acts. You may want to check out the shark experience and aquarium at Mandalay Bay and the dolphin experience and tiger exhibit at the Mirage. Plus at night you could check out the volcano errupting at the Mirage or the fountains at the Bellagio. There is the M&M Candy Factory on the strip - and for sightseeing you could go up to the top of the Eifel Tower at the Paris Casino or take a ride in the gondolas at the Venetion. Most hotels have swimming pools too for fun and relaxation. There is lots to do in Vegas that does not always has to be paired up with gambling, drinking and x-rated shows! Have fun!!
- There are a number of items in addition to those already mentioned in prior answers. The Lied Children's Discovery Museum is nice for kids, for example.
As for Child Care, the Station Casino's have pay per hour child care for the kids (the closest to the Strip is Palance Station at Sahara and the I-15).
- Most hotels can get a babysitter to stay in your room with the kids Just check with guest services or the concierge. There is a water park on the strip and awesome roller coaster on the top of the stratosphere and free circus acts at The Circus-Circus,also the MGM Grand has an amusement park.
- Circus Circus is probably the only true family hotel on the Strip. They probably have some sort of babysitting service. I assume you are going there on business and taking him along? Also, although not on the Strip you may try Camp Hyatt. It's pricey but worth it.
I do hope that you find time to take your son to the Hoover Dam. At 5, he will have bragging rights for years. It is a truly awesome example of American engineering at its best.
