child care post

Is 8,000 dollars enough money to open and start a day care for 27 kids?

I am opening a day care for my job that needs day care for 27 children. I need to know how big the room should be and if 8,000 bucks a month will be enough. I don't have a start up cost though. just 8,000 a month.

  1. You need to start by seeing how many caretakers are needed for 27 kids. Most states have regulations as to the maximum number of kids that one person can see. Then figure 40 hours a week times at least minimum wage (say $1,000 per employee a month) plus benefits (add another say $250 a month for unemployment, social security, etc.). Assuming 4 employees (6 kids per employee), that is $5,000 a month right there. Then there is insurance, rent, utlities, your pay, various other expenses - $8,000 a month might be cutting it close. And as you pointed out, there are start-up costs.

Here is a link to a projected income statement for a child care center with 60 kids - just adjust the numbers to 27 kids and you should be able to guestiimate how close you will be to making money.

  2. Most day care charges more for an infant and a little less for a toddler. The one my daughter went to, it was $520 a month for a toddler. Whether she was there or not (sick/vacation), we paid $520 a month. 520 * 27 = 14,040. Also, most states required licensed daycare works and there usually a daycare work / child ratio you have to maintain. Other regulations that have to be maintain, what age children can be together, who/how the food is prepared, security for the center, etc...

You need to contact someone who is in charge of a daycare and see if they will give you the number to the state representive in charge of regulating and inspecting daycare in your state.

  3. No way. And you are not qualified to do this plannning if you do not know that. Some costs already outlined by another response, but I think staffing and salary estimates were way too low. You will also need some equipment (toys, books, cribs, tables & chairs, exercise/gym stuff, televisions, one of each will not do), depending on the ages of the children, and space for all of it. I think one big room is not the way to go. You also need a facility for sick-child care and maybe an outdoor area suitable for children. . You should rethink this entire project first IN WRITING, and ask your company financial guy for help in preparing a budget.

  4. google for HSFX Asset Management , simply the best

make 3% to 10% monthly out of your capital and what are you waiting for?
