Claiming child care if ex paid for half?

I'm divorced with primary placement of my daughter (I have her 100% of the time). I get to claim my daughter as a dependent each year. However, my ex-wife pays for half of the day care. I'm under the assumption that I can only claim the amount I actually paid for the child care, but can my ex claim anything for the child care if I am the one claiming my daughter as the dependent?

  1. You're right, you are only allowed to claim the credit for the amount you actually pay. And only the parent the child lives with for the greater part of the year can claim the child care credit.
