How much does a preschool teacher make a year? what about a Kindergarten teacher?

I'm trying to decide what im going to do with my life. im graduating from high school next year; i know i still have a while to think about this but i want to get a head start. Im considering being a teacher, preferably for younger kids. so do any of you know how much a kindergarten or preschool teacher make in a year? Also, I would appreciate any advice and information kindergarten or preschool teachers have about their profession. Thanks in advance.

  1. In our area a kind. teacher would make around 25,000-30,000. Preschool all depends on who hires you...if it's a school district you'd make similar to a teacher, but private or church schools probably make less I guess.

  2. it depends on where you live/teach

"Median annual earnings of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers ranged from $43,580 to $48,690 in May 2006; the lowest 10 percent earned $28,590 to $33,070; the top 10 percent earned $67,490 to $76,100. Median earnings for preschool teachers were $22,680."

"It also varies on education, you get more for having a Masters, or for every six credits after a BA you get a stipend"

  3. Teaching positions, like most jobs, vary greatly depending on the area you live and the people that hire you. Private schools generally pay better than public schools. I would guess that you would make extremely similar salaries as kindergarten or preschool. I would estimate between $20,000 and $40,000, depending on the area you live and the school that hires you.

  4. It depends greatly on what location you were planning on teaching in. In some areas a kindergartan teacher make more and in some areas a preschool teacher makes more.

  5. The salary will vary from school system to school system. You can check it out by contacting your local school board. Keep in mind that teachers can also work in the summer months. I use to teach in a Kiddie College Program arts and crafts. There are also summer programs at many schools. Then when you have a family you have most of the same holidays and days off as your children. Then there is what you get personally out of being a teacher children have an amazing way of touching your life. That you can not put a price tag on. The one thing that you can be sure of is job security. With the New No Child Left Behind there are more teaching positions then ever since many school systems are having to reduce class size. It is a wonderful career there is no question in my mind I would do it again.

  6. Preschool Teachers make less than Kindergarten because they don't have to have their Teaching Credentials.

Kindy Teachers make anywhere between $26,000-40,000 a year and Preschool under $20,000 a year usually.

  7. I teach special education prek and I make right around $36,000.
