child care post

What are the qualifications for a child going into preschool?

I have a 2 and a half year old and would like to be able to enroll her in preschool by this fall. Besides potty training, I would like to know what a child needs to be able to do to get into most preschools. She is very social and I think she would benefit from being around other children. I can't afford day care, I'm a stay at home mom, and I know of some schools in my area that accept 3 yr olds but I can't find any links to figure out what they need to do or even how to enroll. She will be 3 by fall and I know where to go to look. I just need to know what she needs to be able to do. That's all. And I already have decided to not put her through parochial school. It's not the money for preschool that I have worried about just the developement.

  1. I dont think that there are any other than being potty trained and no bottle.

  2. It depends upon what the preschool in question requires.

  3. i think the school you're interested in can tell you what requirements need to be met. potty trained for sure. possible others are recognizing basic shapes and colors and ability to count to 10. that might be it!

  4. I put my little girl, then 18mo, into preschool, which just turned 2 yrs old. She's not potty trained yet. Like your lil one, she's very social, gets along with the other children very well. Try your local churchs to see if they offer a preschool/after school program, which is what my lil one is enrolled in. If so, check to see if the church offers a scholarship program. I wrote a letter explaining my financial situation, which, she was approved for the scholarship. If you have a YMCA, look into that as well.

  5. I thought "pre-school" was daycare. If you're talking 2 1/2 year old, then it's not pre-K, so it's day care...

Potty trained is pretty much it, and if you can afford the tuition...

  6. just call up the preschools and ask if they have openings, usually the biggest issue is whether or not they are accepting children at that time or if you need to go on a wait list. I put my son in at 17 months, part time, just to let him play with other kids, socialize and develop good routines (i am also stay at home mom)

so the other requirements would be, that your daughter has all of her vaccines up to date, this is all I can think of.

  7. Besides potty training, I don't think preschools have qualifications. They are going there to learn and you are so right about benefiting from socializing. At preschool, three-year-olds learn how to social with their peers and accept care/authority while adjusting to a class type setting. They don't need to know their letters or numbers or anything like that b/c it's not concentrating on the academics. You can always call and ask the preschools in you area to mail brochures to you and call your public school system b/c they may even have a preschool program.

  8. Each preschool is different. In the fall or possibly coming up soon they have screenings to determine if your child able to attend school. Go to the school directly that is in your area they can give you a better idea of what you might need to work on. Also ask your friends or neighbors they can be help full as well. At the schools here in the town that i live in they have to score below a certain point which shows them if they even need to attend or not. And then you might think about Parents as teachers which is were a teacher from the school comes to your home and teaches your child for an hour or so which helps to.
