child care post

how much should I pay for childcare for 2 children four days per week?

My son is 3 years old and my daughter is 3 months old and I have to go back to work. A friend of the family is going to watch them from 8 to 3 monday thru thursday. She wants me to find out a reasonable amount for her to charge. Does anyone from the midwest or Nebraska have a suggestion for what is charged for non-licensed childcare? Either a daily or an hourly rate would work. Thanks!

  1. I paid $12-$14/hour, but your best bet is to find out what people are charging in your home town or city. Childcare rates vary widely, and if you could poll your friends, you'd get a much more accurate answer. If you don't know who to ask, ask mothers that you meet at the park what they pay. They should be happy to help.

  2. I know here in Canada at a Daycare it's 25 per child per day.

  3. Where I am it is $250 a week for my 2 children....

  4. I live in Iowa, so I'm going to answer.

When my daughter (now 5) was first born I paid 140 per week. When my second daughter (now 3) was born I paid 200 per week. Then we had a son (now 18 months) I pulled them out of unliscensed home and they went to a liscensed daycare center for a whopping 350 per week.

My sister quit her job (she has three little ones also and couldn't pay for daycare) and now she provides care for my children, my brothers children and two children of her best friend. She charges me 150 per week for all three of them.

I would say for seven hours a day four days a week somewhere between 75-125 would be reasonable.

You can email me if you have more questions.
